As a freelance musician in the New York Metropolitan Area, bass
trombonist Jon Ferrone is a frequent performer in the Symphonic,
Jazz, Theatrical, Chamber, Commercial, Solo, and Rock & Roll genres.
As an orchestral musician, Jon has performed with The New York
Philharmonic, National Repertory Orchestra, Allentown (PA) Symphony
Orchestra, Greater Bridgeport (CT) Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey
Ballet, New Jersey Pops Orchestra, Garden State Philharmonic,
Westchester (NY) Chamber Orchestra, Queens Orchestral Ensemble, New
York Chamber Sinfonia, Dicapo Opera Theater, and the Choral
Societies of New York and New Jersey, in addition to many other
orchestras.
Jon is a regular member of several big bands and has been the bass
trombonist with The Garden State Concert Band since 2000. He has
performed with the Richie Cecere Orchestra and was the youngest
musician ever to be a featured soloist with the group. Jon was
principal trombonist of the Orchestra of the Full Gospel Church from
2004-2007. Jon has also worked with The Gramercy Brass Band, The
Manhattan Brass Quintet, and the Queens Festival Band.
As a theatrical musician, Jon has performed on productions of the
musicals “Anything Goes”, “Cabaret”, “Carousel”, “Chess”, “Crazy For
You”, “Forty-Second Street”, “Guys and Dolls”, “Hair”, “Jekyll and
Hyde”, “Les Miserables”, “Miss Saigon”, “The Music Man”, “My Fair
Lady”, “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”, “Oliver”, “Pippin”, “The
Producers”, “Swing”, and “West Side Story”.
At the age of 20, Jon performed with Olivia Newton-John on her world
tour. He has also shared the stage with Billy J. Kramer, the
original opening act for the Beatles, and with legendary folk singer
Judy Collins. As a recording artist, he has recorded for Art Watch,
Shout Audio Productions, and Promise Ministries.
Jon has Performed in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center,
The Kimmel Center (Philadelphia), NJPAC, The Waldorf-Astoria and
Plaza Hotels, The Meadowlands, Madison Square Garden, PNC Bank Arts
Center, and The New Jersey State, Westchester Broadway, Count Basie,
MacHaydn, and Wagner College Theaters. He has worked under the
batons of such conductors as Kurt Masur, David Zinman, and JoAnn
Falletta.
Jon serves on the adjunct brass faculty for St. Peter’s Prep and he
also teaches privately. He is a member of the American Federation of
Musicians. He doubles on tenor trombone, and plays electric bass.
Education includes a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees
from the Mannes College of Music in New York City. Jon also studied
for two summers at the Aspen Music Festival. He is a former member
of the New York Youth Symphony and the New Jersey All-State Band and
Orchestra. Jon’s major teachers include David Taylor, John Rojak,
and David Finlayson.
